Optimizing an animation

After you create an animation in Fireworks, you can prepare it for export by optimizing it. For more information on optimizing graphics, see Choosing optimization settings for GIFs and PNGs.

To optimize an animation:

1 In the Optimize panel, choose Animated GIF from the Export File Format pop-up.
2 Set the Palette, Dither, or Transparency options.
3 In the Frames panel, set the frame delay for the frames.

Setting transparency

As part of the optimization process, you can set one or more colors within an animated GIF to display in a Web browser as transparent. This is useful when you want a Web page background color or image to show through the animation.

Note: Older Web browsers may not support transparent animated GIFs.

To make the canvas color transparent:

In the Optimize panel, choose Index Transparency from the Transparency pop-up.

To display a color as transparent in a Web browser:

1 Choose Window > Optimize to open the Optimize panel.
2 From the Transparency pop-up, choose either Index Transparency or Alpha Transparency.
3 Use the transparency tools in the Optimize panel to select colors for transparency.
